Andrew the Chef

My client, Andrew, landed EXACTLY the opportunity he wanted…but his nerves were stealing his success.

Andrew is a chef and recipe developer on a TV show.

He is passionate about food.

The kitchen is his happy place.

But, when his episodes were filmed, Andrew felt stressed and overly critical of himself.

🥕 A little context: during a typical episode of this cooking show, Andrew has quite a few things on his plate. (Pun intended!)

1. He chats with the host about his food experience at a unique dining place he’s visited while on the road.

2. He demonstrates how to cook a tasty recipe from that place…while at the same time -

3. he banters with the host.

Even though he was sharing recipes and experiences that he loved, he wasn’t feeling joyful or relaxed enough to let his humor play.

He was anxious, stiff, and self-conscious.

His true passion for food was not coming through.

To prepare, Andrew tried memorizing his script word for word, rehearsing by himself, and cooking his recipes multiple times.

But he struggled to get out of his head and didn’t feel at ease or in the moment during filming.

He also felt tripped up by the paragraphs of sentences in his scripts.

And then he reached out for guidance and we got to work.

I showed him how to focus on making the audience feel like they were right there in the kitchen with him.

I reminded him that though the camera was on him, the shoot was not about him.

His role is to:
-🥕invite the audience into his world
-🥕share what he learned
-🥕be hospitable

I taught him how to paint a vivid picture with his words when describing his restaurant adventures on the road.

This way viewers could imagine what the BBQ smoke smelled like or just how spicy the salsa was.🌶️

I showed him how to create a script that worked for him so he wouldn't worry about memorizing long sentences perfectly.

And I played host as he rehearsed his stories and recipe demo, and bantered with me.

(I threw him some banter curveballs to keep him on his toes!)

Over time, Andrew became more confident and relaxed during his rehearsal process and while on set. 😊

During filming, he is now:
-much more present
-having fun
-able to focus
-relaxed enough so that his quirky sense of humor feels safe to come out

He’s now operating from a place of generosity and sharing, instead of striving to be perfect and second-guessing himself.

Andrew has been getting great feedback from the director, producers, and his colleagues on the show.

And…he now also has his own show!🎊

If you’re ready to transform the way you prepare so that you can:

🌶️be more present

🌶️have more ease (and fun) when you present

🌶️not miss out on exciting opportunities -  let's schedule a call!
