The Broken Yolk

There is a restaurant in San Diego that I am unlikely to ever visit.

It's not because it has bad reviews. (People really love this place!)

And I never got food poisoning there.

It's because…

…of its name.

It's called The Broken Yolk.

I have never ever liked broken yolks! 🍳 EVER!

I was about to launch into all of my negative feelings about runny yokes, but I am already starting to feel queasy and sick.

Before you start to tell me how magnificent eggs benedict is, just trust me. I'm not going to order it.

Let's talk about another two words.

Ready?

Public speaking.

Sit with those two words for a moment.

What feelings come up for you when you see those words?

Take note of all them.

And consider this.

I would have no trouble walking into a breakfast place called The Hardboiled Egg.

(I'd probably order avocado toast🥑 with hard boiled egg on top. Scrumptious!)

With a simple wording tweak, I have a completely different attitude.

So, what if you used different words to describe this art of presenting?

Try these on:

- Having a conversation

- Sharing

- Creating an experience

How do each of these sit with you?

What does your body tell you?

Does your heart open more? Do your nerves calm down a bit?

If these don't work, get creative.

Find a way to describe the public speaking experience in a way that feels good to you.
