You're an Expert - Why the Nerves?

I used to believe that the more skilled I was, the less nervous I would be.

Years ago, as an actress, I figured that the more training I had, the less anxious I would feel before performances and auditions.

But, somehow, the opposite was true.

Sigh.

The more I worked on my craft, the higher my standards became to get things “right”.

I wanted everything to be 100% emotionally truthful.

Authentic. Natural. Spontaneous.

These aren’t bad things to want. I LOVE performances and talks that feel this way.

But the pressure I put on myself to get them “right” undermined my ability to deliver.

My body responded very truthfully to this pressure.

😟It gave me stomachaches.

😟It gave me anxiety about messing up.

And those things stressed me out!

I became nervous about being nervous.😨

Until one day I thankfully discovered a gifted acting teacher, who was also a talented and funny actor.

This actor had a really refreshing take on managing performance anxiety.

And being in the moment.

He addressed which mindsets and beliefs were getting me into overthinking and stress.

He helped me see which ones were making me self-conscious instead of being in flow.

He showed me how to trust whatever was happening in the moment, so that my performances could be what I wanted them to be -  real, authentic and spontaneous.

I learned how to be prepared, but at the same time, open to inspiration.

This led me to trust myself. And to experience much less fear and more openness.

SUCH a relief! And so much more FUN.

➡️ Fast forward: now I work with clients and help them to:

💡 discover which of their beliefs are creating their nerves.

💡 rehearse so that they sound authentic, rather than scripted or canned.

💡 prepare so they can be in the moment and present in their body - rather than feeling stuck in their heads while having an out-of-body experience.

I have time over the next month to take on several more coaching clients.

If you’re ready to present with authenticity, let's schedule a call! Here's a link to my calendar.
